PerSim First Responder Medical Training using Mixed Reality
PerSim from MedCognition Inc. is a realistic, portable, affordable training simulation for first responders. This use of augmented reality for healthcare can help save lives.
MedCognition is a pre-product healthcare startup was recently formed in 2016 out of San Antonio Texas. The goal of the founding members to “make high fidelity simulation accessible throughout the chain of medical care.”
The PerSim application allows for a medical first responder trainee using the Microsoft Hololens to interact with a mixed reality of holographic and physical healthcare content in a real emergency environment. “The virtual patient has realistic color (e.g., looks pale and sweaty when in severe respiratory distress), realistic mouth movements and voice sounds.”
Custom healthcare scenarios can be fed into the holographic scene by an instructor using an iPad interface. Using the editor interface, instructors can create these healthcare augmented reality scenarios from scratch, or use a touch and drag feature. The vitals can be simulated on real monitors for a more realistic experience during the training. And the instructor can view what that the trainee sees via Hololens through the iPad itself.
