Virtual Reality Goggles distracts patients from their pain. The mind can only focus on so much stimulation at once and given something else to focus on, the pain a person experiences will diminish. Patient, Briana, exhausted from days of nearly unbearable pain is transformed just a half an hour later, while interacting with a virtual reality game. VR pain management research to study how immersive virtual reality therapy can be used to reduce pain is ongoing at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
